In XP, you click Save to My Computer. The result will be a WMV file type. That file type is acceptable to You Tube, so go ahead and upload it.

First, it can help you to edit your file. You can use it to trim your file, add watermark, add cuepoint, replace the source audio etc.
Second, it can help you to convert your video to FLV format. As we know Youtube like FLV files most. So if you video is regular format, youtube have to convert it on its server and sometimes it fails. So I suggest you to convert it to FLV format before you upload it and upload the flv directly.

on the last page! choose the setting for your movie!
Pick the last option(more settings) then choose DV-AVI
